Buddy & Son Brings a New French-American Brasserie to New York’s Public Hotel

New York’s Public Hotel is preparing to welcome Buddy & Son, a new restaurant led by hospitality executive Shelley Armistead and chef Jake Epstein. Scheduled to open on October 26, 2026, the project aims to establish a new dining destination on the Lower East Side.

A new restaurant concept for the Public Hotel

Located at 215 Chrystie Street, the restaurant will occupy a space within the hotel developed by Ian Schrager and designed by Herzog & de Meuron. Buddy & Son brings together Armistead, former CEO of the Gjelina Group, and Epstein, who previously served as executive chef at Gjelina’s New York location.

The concept is built around a French-American brasserie, with a menu focused on ingredients and familiar culinary traditions interpreted through the team’s experience.

A menu shaped by French-American influences

Planned dishes include a seafood tower, Dover sole served with beurre blanc, beef tartare and chicken accompanied by red wine jus. The dessert selection will feature creations such as chocolate mousse and coconut cake.

The restaurant will also offer a wine list drawing on France, Italy, Spain and California, alongside a bar serving classic cocktails and original drinks. A neighbouring café is expected to provide coffee, juice and lunch options.

With Buddy & Son, the Public Hotel is seeking to strengthen its appeal as a destination for both hotel guests and New York diners.
