The hotel’s chic interiors are the work of British designer Tara Bernerd, a protégé of Philippe Starck.

Four years after the launch of The Hari London, an 85-room bolthole in Knightsbridge, the luxe hotel brand is about to debut its second global outpost in the home city of its owners, the esteemed Harilela family (whose rags-to-riches story across multiple generations mirrors the rise of Hong Kong itself). Taking up a newly built skyscraper between the neighborhoods of Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, The Hari Hong Kong will have 210 guest rooms, including three rooftop suites.

Harilela Hotels chairman and CEO Dr. Aron Harilela recruited famous British designer Tara Bernerd, who was also behind the modish interiors of The Hari London, for the project. “We aimed to create a hotel that felt as though you were walking into the most elegant of Hong Kong homes when you arrived. Like a tailored suit, it brings a London attitude to Hong Kong,” Bernerd said in a statement.

Petrol blue lacquer paneling recalls the same color scheme found at The Hari London, while amber-hued leather, grey marble, textured linens in neutral tones, and timber dominate the rest of the design palette. An open-plan layout maximizes the spatial constraints of the standard King and Twin rooms, which come fitted with a two-seater sofa and marble bathrooms, and larger Corner rooms also have an extra dressing room. (Guest quarters in the latter category boast views down Lockhart Road to either Wan Chai or Causeway Bay.) Each of the rooftop suites features a separate sitting room and private terrace; midcentury-modern inspired fittings include chic floor lamps, glass-topped marble coffee tables, and custom-made timber credenzas.

Downstairs, two dining venues grace the property. Lucciola Restaurant & Bar will serve classic Italian dishes with a modern twist inside a timber-clad space; one floor up, Zoku Restaurant & Terrace specializes in Japanese fare. Patrons at Zoku can choose to be seated at a dining room and lounge designed in playful shades of pink, or a terrace bar adorned with a three-story-high green wall.

The Hari Hong Kong will be opening its doors on December 12, 2020.
