Jill Goh, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, expressed her excitement about the new fan: “We are delighted to introduce our new signature fan, marking a significant milestone in our Exceptionally Singapore journey. Our collaboration with Hans Tan underscores our commitment to connecting with the vibrant city we call home. The intricate design, with its rich interplay of colors and patterns, reflects our deep history and timeless appeal as we continue to set new standards of luxury in Singapore and beyond.”

Inspired by Singapore’s essence, the fan’s design aligns with the newly refreshed interiors of the hotel. The fan features motifs that merge the city’s multicultural heritage with Peranakan batik designs and elegant floral elements, representing Singapore as the Garden City. Hans Tan described the fan as a visual narrative, capturing the seamless integration of the hotel, its destination, and its culture. “The fan for Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, truly represents the hotel. Each art piece tells a story, and this fan is a testament to the blend of tradition and modernity,” Tan explained.

The fan reinterprets the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s iconic eleven-bladed fan, a symbol uniting the hotels under a single identity. Made using a meticulous resist blasting technique, the fan undergoes a two-step process. Initially, the porcelain base clay is bisque-fired to achieve a hard, porous state. This is followed by a glaze firing, creating a non-porous, glass-like surface. The chosen hues of pink and green, inspired by Peranakan culture, harmonize with the hotel’s green façade and the warm pink clay of the atrium, echoing the reimagined spaces designed by Jeffrey Wilkes of DESIGNWILKES.

The signature fan is prominently displayed in the hotel lobby, serving as a welcoming centerpiece for guests.
