A historic first, 190 years in the making
Hermès has confirmed it will present its first-ever haute couture collection during Paris Couture Week in January 2027, designed by women's artistic director Nadège Vanhée, who has led the house's ready-to-wear collections since 2014. The announcement, shared exclusively with WWD on 9 July, marks a historic milestone for a house founded in 1837.
Craftsmanship at the highest level
Speaking at the company's annual results presentation, Hermès chief executive Axel Dumas said work on the collection was already well underway, describing what he had seen as "superb." The debut will coincide with Grace Wales Bonner's own first runway collection as creative director of Hermès menswear, ensuring the house opens 2027 with two major creative milestones.
Couture as a strategic pinnacle
The move illustrates how haute couture remains a powerful tool of prestige and desirability, even in a cautious market. Only 13 houses currently hold the legally protected "haute couture" appellation; Hermès will debut as a guest member, following the same path as Balenciaga before it.
