Set to open in Q3 2022, The Residence Douz by luxury hospitality brand Cenizaro Hotels and Resorts, will be an opulent 50-villa resort set within 14 hectares of rolling sand dunes and swaying palms in southern Tunisia, serving as a gateway to the Sahara.

The Residence Douz marks the debut of Cenizaro Hotels and Resorts’ first desert resort. The brand’s second opening in Tunisia, this safari-inspired retreat will serve as a gateway to the Sahara, surrounded by glistening golden sand and swaying palms. Upon arrival guests will be welcomed by glowing lanterns, paving the way through the all-suite oasis, which comprises 50 desert-inspired villas set in 40 hectares of rolling dunes. Experience an otherworldly escape where the desert’s resounding silence is an elixir for the soul and guests may dream peacefully under a sky full of stars.

Referencing local design and aesthetics, each of the villas incorporates patterned bricks of Tozeur, hand-woven carpets and a canvas canopy to shade the private terraces and swimming pools from the heat of the desert sun. An amalgamation of worldwide influences and cuisines, Tunisia’s rich culture is reflected in the resort’s dining experiences. Each of the three spaces will serve up different dishes, celebrating African wilderness, Arabic delicacies and Mediterranean elegance – showcasing delicious flavours in the form of gourmet cuisine and sumptuous comfort food. Soothe away the desert heat in the spa where guests can expect a large hammam, 8 treatment rooms, 8 scrub rooms, Turkish baths, and a spa lounge, each of which will be embellished by local artwork and furnishings.

The kid’s club is complete with an observatory tower, for stargazing and spotting wildlife such as Fennecs and Gazelles, multiple playrooms, and a child-friendly pool. Outside of the resort, guests are encouraged to immerse themselves within the local culture, whether it be on a camel ride across the dunes, an excursion to locations made famous by Star Wars – including the cave-like dwellings of Matmata, and the immense Salt Lake of Chott El-Jerid.
