Design as Storytelling: Arthur Hoffner’s Vision of Movement and Lightness
A creative partner of the Maison since 2019, Arthur Hoffner once again infuses the Perlée collection with his signature mix of geometry, whimsy, and interaction. His scenography turns familiar collection codes into vibrant installations part sculpture, part journey where visitors can move through dynamic displays filled with color and motion.
Through both tactile structures and digital experiences, Hoffner invites the viewer to explore the idea of suspended movement, where golden beads seem to float in space, evoking the weightless charm of the Perlée aesthetic.
“The Perlée universe expresses motion, lightness, and joy. Since our first collaboration, I’ve imagined each display as a playground for the pearl capturing its rhythm, its dance, and its elegance.” — Arthur Hoffner
Artistry Past and Present: The Evolution of a Timeless Code
Within each pop-up installation, Van Cleef & Arpels presents a curated selection of Perlée pieces from its latest designs to heritage creations. Together, they paint a vivid picture of the Maison’s evolving relationship with the golden bead, an iconic motif that has transcended time and trend.
First appearing in the late 1940s on sculptural pieces such as the Couscous and Bagatelle, the motif soon adorned whimsical animal clips in the La Boutique line. By the 1960s, these golden beads were paired with vibrant ornamental stones in lively designs like the Rosace clip. When the first Alhambra was introduced in 1968, the bead motif was used to outline the now-famous clover-shaped design: a symbol of luck and elegance. Today, golden beads continue to embellish the Lucky Spring and Lucky Animals collections, reinforcing the Maison’s creative continuity.
This retrospective narrative not only highlights Van Cleef & Arpels’ artistic identity but also offers an inspiring lens for those pursuing careers in jewelry, design, and luxury storytelling.
