The Kahala Hotel & Resort, one of Honolulu's most famous hotels, has been a favorite destination for guests from around the world for more than half a century. The Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama is a first step towards expanding the Kahala brand globally.

But there are also other very good reasons why Yokohama will be the first place in Japan to open a Hawaiian hotel brand. In 1868, the first Japanese emigrants left the Osanbashi region of Yokohama for what was then the new paradise called Hawaii. A few decades later, it was also in Yokohama that the Meiji government welcomed its first official guest, King David Kalakaua of the Kingdom of Hawaii, to Japan.
