InterContinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso & Spa: environment-friendly luxury

In the archipelago of the Society Islands, in French Polynesia, on Motu Piti Aau, 5-star Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort Thalasso & Spa deploys its 80 stilted villas like two huge talons in the lagoon.

Facing the main island of Bora Bora and the majestic Mount Otemanu, this resort is the first in the world to be equipped with the eco-friendly air-conditioning system, or SWAC, supplied with sea water coming from the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

Communing with the beauties of nature, at every step

All villas feature a simple, contemporary and elegant style, highlighted here and there by delicate Polynesian touches. The atmosphere is intimate and comfortable, ideal to open one’s mind to the beauties offered by an exceptional environment.

The four most recent villas have private swimming pools which perfectly blend with the lagoon like natural turquoise extensions. The villas are organized around a high-ceiling living room whose solid wood beams and driftwood decorations confer authenticity, in perfect osmosis with the surrounding nature.

The bathrooms of these villas have a double bathtub and a separated shower, twin vanity sinks and a luxurious range of toiletries in each unit. All bathtubs face the lagoon.

Like all exceptional 5-star accommodations, the hotel proposes many services to discover Bora Bora’s wonderful fauna and flora: snorkelling with palms and tuba, outings in kayak, paddle or even traditional Polynesian dugout but also, for more experienced guests, jet skis. Bora Bora is also easily accessible by boat.

An all-sense overwhelming experience

If multicoloured corals constitute an extraordinary habitat for fish and offer a fabulous journey in the limpid waters of ocean floors, the impressive 43,000 sq ft thermal complex Deep Ocean Spa gives the opportunity to continue this immersive experience while taking care of oneself. Indeed, cabins present a glass floor with a plunging view on the lagoon’s aquatic life! This first thalassotherapy centre in French Polynesia also stands out for its helpful reception, respectful of the authenticity that reigns everywhere in the resort. In place of the traditional bathrobe and slippers, hosts are handed a paréo and flip-flops. Always with the concern to adopt an environmental approach, the station pumps cold sea water, which feeds the air-conditioning system and is used in the spa.

Restaurants are just as authentic: Le Corail, the hotel’s gourmet offer, presents the largest wine list of all French Polynesia. A French and European-inspired cuisine is served and revisited with the seafood and produce provided by the surrounding nature.

The restaurant, Le Reef, has a brasserie-bistro character and serves more traditional dishes.

Lastly, the resort’s three bars – the Bubbles Bar, the Sands Bar and the South Beach Bar – are the perfect venue for drinks: facing the lagoon, they each create a different atmosphere for cocktail sipping  either with a cosy, relaxed or more trendy vibe.

The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa deserves its unqualified exceptional reputation. Determined to respect the fabulous environment it is nestled in, the Intercontinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa helps perpetuate the new codes of sustainable luxury.
