Now in its fifth year of operation, Annabel’s in Mayfair has become a world-famous private Member’s Club known for its exclusive, top-class offerings. On July 7th, Annabel’s welcomed its sixth restaurant, The Japanese, located on the second floor of the 26,000-square-foot club, which will provide an exceptional Asian-inspired culinary experience to its members and their guests.

Since the unveiling of Annabel’s at 46 Berkeley Square five years ago, the globally acclaimed private member’s club is now preparing to evolve further with its sixth restaurant opening in the iconic club situated in the heart of Mayfair, London. An all-day and all-night private venue set in a Grade I listed Georgian mansion house, Annabel’s is, at its core, a place to entertain and be entertained. With a timeless combination of comfort, glamour and intimacy, the club continually strives to create an atmosphere that is as unforgettable and celebratory as ever, for a diverse, eclectic and cosmopolitan membership.

The Japanese, which is the club’s latest culinary offering, takes over from the ‘The Elephant Bar’ on the first floor of the club. After a complete renovation, the space has been transformed into an elegant, contemporary Japanese dining space. The bar’s existing interiors have been re-visualised by Nicola Fontanella of Argent Design to refresh the venue with traditional Japanese prints and details, including antique rugs and grand handblown Murano glass chandeliers. Touches of turquoise give a lighter fresh feeling to rejuvenate the space, whilst ochre and terracotta velvet banquettes and hand-embroidered cushions allow guests to relax at new low-level dining tables to create a balanced and sensory atmosphere.

The menu has been developed over the last six months to showcase the very best of Japanese ingredients and cooking styles — keeping it refined, clean and full of flavour. Members and guests will enjoy signature dishes including succulent Grilled Wagyu Sirloin with Fresh Wasabi; Tuna Tataki; Rock Shrimp & Yuzu Kosho; Aubergine, Kinome Miso and Tomatoes; Seaweed Salad and Apple; Thinly Sliced Seabass & Yuzu Truffle Dressing and Matcha Éclairs with Cherries to finish.

The drinks menu will showcase a curated selection of the world’s best sakes and shōchū, alongside an array of the finest and rarest champagnes in the world, available by the glass, a first for Annabel’s, made possible by Coravin. Also available will be a selection of Japanese whiskies, including a rare bottle of Yamazaki 55, of which only four bottles exist in Europe. The signature cocktail menu takes inspiration from Miyamoto Musashi’s ‘The Book of Five Rings’, and has been recreated into the five rings (five chapters of the book) – Fire, Water, Wind, Earth and Void – to feature cocktails such as Flames of Tokyo with Suntory Toki Whisky, Flame Shrub, Nori Leaf Oils, Topped with Soda Water and an Airbender with Ki No Bi Sei Gin, Honjozo Sake, Japanese Spiced Cordial, Absinthe, Apple, Topped Up with Soda.

The Japanese at Annabel’s is open for dinner from Thursday 7th July onwards and lunch from 26th July onwards.
